i was always a geek at school, and very pleased with the fact. better that than some of the other options!

They hadn't invented geeks when I was at school (well not the word anyway)-but the other kids thought I was odd because I liked classical music. Everyone else was singing along to the Beatles, Slade, T-Rex and (later) the Bay City Rollers, and I was singing along to Gilbert & Sullivan.

I think it was the lunchtimes spent in the library (warm and dry and always somewhere to sit) and the long discussions with my friend about astronomy, a willingness to answer questions in class and me pointing out the general stupidity of other people that earned me the reputation of being a swot.

well I was a swot in Primary school (where it wasn't fashionable to study hard) and a lazy %*$&^ at Secondary,( where it was)-couldn't seem to get it right, somehow.
