The Watch House

Postby The_Bad_Man » September 4th, 2007, 6:03 pm

I've always been one to think that dry spells just happen and that ultimately life has always, in the past, returned to these board after a little drop in interest.

However this slum that the board is going through has lasted far too long. None of the mile long threads that once we used to indulge in have reemerged, the meaningless banter that everyone used to conribute to has fallen silent.

Maybe i'm been a little melodramatic, but i've been posting on these boardes for years and it saddens me to see the life drain out of them. I'm more than aware that alot of people have got things going off in their life, i'm totally sympathetic to this, I myself did disappear for a prolonged period when I spent some time in the states. However, i'm beginning to feel that people are leaving the board and not coming back.

So i'm posting this topic as a wake up call, to anyone who is still here, please everyone come and post and register your interest. If not, then maybe it's just time for us to throw in the towel.

I'm here, but I have to apologise that I haven't been for ages. Real life has become too busy, and I don't have the time that I used to. I don't mind leaving things going if people want, but I don't know how much I'll be around anymore.

Yeah, posts have been few and far between for quite a while now. I'm almost starting to miss Glorfindel's wanton butchery of the English language.

I think one of the problems is that new people join, but then there is a lack of threads to keep them interested and posting, what I think we should do is go on a recruitment drive to get a large amount of new people to join, so that they provide the majority of posts. Hopefully then we can begin to get the "old guard" to come back, thus keeping the threads and posts coming.

That's not a good sign.

Well you seem to have tackeled that rather well. I've tried to post in every thread you have to keep things up.

You know of any forums that would be suitable to post on announcing this site?

I was actually thinking of sending emails to alot of the old members and see who I heard back from.

Sort of like I did with Apple, whom i'm hoping is still around. Not heard from spirit recently mind... as well as several others.

Well I am on a few forums, and I know of a few pratchett fans on the boards. If two or three people did this we could probably get enough members to keep this place going.

Yes I'm still around, I went away, then I come back and nobody's here, but I come back in hope of seeing posts, and now I do.

I really miss Spirit, she's a lovely person.

Well good to see we have some enthusiasm around here. Hopefully we can keep this place going.

So yes, spread the word the Watch House needs members and lets just keep the posts coming in.

We could just check to see if they added their email adress to their profiles. We should draw up a list and check who we can contact.
Wow, making no nonsense plans is kind of fun, i should do this more often!

Meanwhile any of us who is on other forums should begin searching for suitable members to recruit.

Ok, here are the people who used to be around alot (basically anyone with a post count over 500.

Sam Vimes - has an email.
Cheery Littlebottom - no email.
Spirit - has an email.
Errol - No mail, but does have a website (i've not looked at it)
Nork Nork - has an email.
Greebo 61 - has an email.
Fluff under the sofa - has an email.
Magrat - no email.
Jackola vimes - has an email.
Jordcluff - has an email.
elbarad - has an email (don't remember the guy though).
Lars Gimlets cousin - has an email.
Reg Shoe - no email.
The Fool - has an email (someone else I don't remember)
Isil - No email (but then she has posted recently)
Gytha Fiona - no email.
Soap sudd - no email.
Crimson Dave/lemon king/ultima mix - hahahahaha, like ____ their getting invited back.
Commander Vimes - has an email.
Kron Kron - has an email (was he part of the ultimamix crowd?
alephcat - has an email (another person I don't remember)
Toothfairy - has an email.
llamedos - no email.

Well that's the lot. Ok, so when I have a spare moment, i'll compose a "Come back to the Watch" email and send it out to all those who have left points of contact (which is a good 14 people), how many of them will come back, or their emails are no good is questionable.

But it's all part of the great game of getting people back to the Watch, breathing new life into it.
